Subtle Lagoon
|
|
This is the 'Lagoon' nebula in Sagittarius which can be seen from Ireland mainly on summer evenings as a bright nebulous patch of light just above the 'teapot' and the large sagittarius starcloud, named as M8 by Charles Messier. At 4,000 to 6,000 light years away, it is seen as a bright 6th magnitude glow a degree across, containg newly born stars, and the fabulous starcluster NGC 6530.
